FRESNO, Calif. -- Thirteen years after he was honored as a hero for saving a drowning child, jurors
convicted a Fresno gang member of a drive-by shooting.
Ivan Ramirez was found guilty Tuesday of shooting at an inhabited house, being a felon with a gun
and participating in a gang. The 21-year-old Ramirez faces a possible life prison term when he's
sentenced Aug. 31.
Prosecutors say the gang member got into a confrontation with rivals on Jan. 24 outside a Reedley
store and Ramirez later fired two rounds at a home where he believed the rivals lived.
In 1997, Ramirez was 8 when he and three other children formed a human chain to pull Kasee Yang
from a canal in southeast Fresno.
